It is situated in the Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh and is one of the several other bird sanctuaries of Uttar Pradesh. The Sanctuary stretches over a total area of 4 square kilometers and is home to winter birds, water birds, migratory birds and more than 320 different varieties of bird species and vibrant colorful plants. The Okhla Bird Sanctuary was established in the year 1990 and it has several birds species from all over the world. The birds are a sight to behold in all their splendor as it mesmerizes and captures the attention of the beholder.   1. Critically endangered bird species:

The Okhla Bird sanctuary located in Noida is home to two special Bird species which are known to be endangered and are well protected and cared for within this bird Sanctuary. These include those of the Indian vulture and white-rumped vulture.

  1. Vulnerable bird species:

The Okhla Bird Sanctuary is also home to 29 different varieties of birds species that are known to be vulnerable and on the brink of extinction in the near future. This includes the Indian skimmer Finn’s weaver, the Baikal teal, sarus crane, the Bristled Grassbird, the fish eagle, lapwing, and the adjutant bird species.

  1. Near threatened bird species:

The Okhla Bird Sanctuary also has birds which are nearly threatened and would soon become extinct if proper care and precaution is not taken. This includes 7 of these species such as the grey-headed fish Eagle, ferruginous pochard, black-bellied tern, and several other species.

  1. Other rare bird attractions:

Apart from the above, you can also spot rare migratory birds like the Western Marsh harrier,  pied avocet, wood sandpiper, black-tailed godwit, common redshank, bluethroat, and lots more.

You also get to see animals like the Jackal, Nilgai and the black-naped hare, if you are lucky enough. These are rare sightings for every nature enthusiast with so much greenery and Splendor that surrounds you. There are even better chances of birds porting from up here.

The Okhla Bird Sanctuary also features more than 188 species of different varieties of plants.  Some of them are crossbred while some of them grow naturally. Some of these plant varieties grow vibrant flowers that Bloom all year round or at specific seasons. These plant varieties are quite rare and natives of this sanctuary.

The Okhla Bird Sanctuary can be found located at Noida Plaza, N block, Pocket K, sector 95, New Okhla Industrial development area Noida, Uttar Pradesh, 201301  New Delhi.

Timings of The Okhla Bird Sanctuary:

The Okhla Bird Sanctuary is open from 7 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening during the summer. While in the winter this Bird Sanctuary is open from 7:30 in the morning to 5 in the evening.

How to reach there?

  • The Okhla Bird Sanctuary can be easily reached by bus, train and through the Delhi Metro. These routes are the most reliable and convenient ones to use. The Okhla Bird Sanctuary is also located close to the Botanical Garden Metro Station which is easily accessible to the other areas of the city. It takes just 10 minutes to reach the bird sanctuary from here. It is just 3 kilometers away and one can easily reach it either through two wheeler or four wheeler vehicles.
  • You can also reach the Okhla Bird Sanctuary by train as it is just 20 km away from the New Delhi railway station, 15.3 km away from the Ghaziabad Railway Station, 10 km away from the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, 21 km away from the old Delhi railway station, and 25 km away from the ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
  • The Okhla Bird Sanctuary can also be reached by flight as the airport is just 25 km away by road.

Price of tickets at the Okhla Bird Sanctuary entrance:

Both Indian visitors and foreign tourists are allowed entry into the Okhla Bird Sanctuary. The price for entry tickets into the Okhla Bird Sanctuary differs between Indians and foreigners. The entry fee for a ticket into this bird sanctuary for a person per day is Rs 30 if it is an Indian citizen, whereas for a foreigner it would cost Rs 350.

Visitors are allowed to take their digital cameras for capturing sightings of Exotic Birds, the surrounding area and the beauty and charm of the place with their cameras. However, a special fee is collected for these cameras per visit. For cameras which are non-digital, digital, small digital movie cameras, and handy cameras are charged at Rs 500 per Indian visitor. Whereas a foreign visitor is charged with Rs 1000 per person.

Both Indian visitors and foreigners who want to capture and shoot documentary feature films are charged Rs. 25,000 Per day.

Indian visitors who wish to capture the beauty of this bird sanctuary with feature films are charged with Rupees 1 lakh per day while foreigners are charged Rs. 1,50,000 per day.
