There is a lot of natural beauty that you have been missing if you haven’t been to the famous Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary. The variety, abundance and diversity of the wildlife here are just beyond our imagination. One would have never imagined that Uttar Pradesh could be home to such a beautiful landscape; I for one did not until I visited the sanctuary and was totally blown away. If it was on me, I would say that Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary is a gift of God that Uttar Pradesh has been blessed with. The Wildlife Sanctuary is extended between Hapur and Amroha and situated on the northern tip of the River Ganga.

Facts that one should know about the Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary

  • The Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary is spread across a massive landscape of 2073 sq kilometers.
  • It is spread between four districts, namely- Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bijnor and Jyotiba Phule Nagar.
  • It is said that the Hastinapur wildlife Sanctuary was part of the great Mahabharata battlefield. The remains could still be found in the Hastinapur sanctuary and many have been turned into pilgrims. Many people visit the Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary to witness the land which was a part of the Mahabharata battle for righteousness.
  • The Shuk Dev temple in this sanctuary has a 72-feet tall statue of Lord Hanuman. People visit here from all around the country.
  • According to the locals around the place, the recommendation to visit the Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary is in the months following July¬†else, one could possibly get roasted in the scorching heat of the sun.
  • If you are a nature lover then you must go for a little hiking trip early in the morning, however not every corner of the Hastinapura sanctuary is accessible for a tourist.

  • Fauna at the Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary

The Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary is home to a large number of birds and animals. One should consider themselves lucky to spot some of the world’s most exotic bird species.

  1. Mammals- The wildlife sanctuary is an abode to many wild cats, leopard, monkeys, fox, wolf, jackals, mongoose, bijju, deer, wild hogs, rabbits, must rats and bats, etc. You can easily spot a lot of these animals on your walk through the wildlife sanctuary.
  1. Reptiles- Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary is home to a range of amphibians such as- turtles, python, cobra, viper, a few wild lizards, and squirrels etc. It is recommended to stay away from the snakes because they are poisonous and could be fatal.
  1. The Avina Fauna- It is hard to start naming the species that one could locate in the Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary because birds come here to hibernate from European countries. However, some are listed here- Cranes, Brown Partridges, Black Partridges, Qual, White vulture, Mynahs, Baya and dancing peacocks etc.
